BEIJING, May 19 (China Economic Net) - "Clean energy is an engine for both US and China to drive digitalization and sustainability. There's significant room for collaboration when it comes to long term supply, hence universal safety, of energy," said Markel Hübinette, Member of the Board of Governors of American Chamber of Commerce in China, at the Global Trade and Investment Promotion Summit 2026 held Monday in Beijing.

He noted that the two countries have "real opportunities" in cooperation on low carbon management, technology, and commercial applications. "We're ready to follow on the positive progress that was made during the recent meeting of bilateral leadership. Our goal is to work with Chinese partners in a responsible way to build a global supply chain system that is more resilient," he said.

According to Hübinette, US-China relations have been a long time cornerstone in global trade and investment partnership. "Innovation is where American companies can team up with the Chinese partners to achieve ‘1 + 1 greater than 2' results," he said.

He also highlighted the importance of jointly developing international standards. Greater alignment, he said, with Chinese partners would not only help reduce costs and create a more unified approach to industrial development, but also improve two-way market access.

Hübinette further pointed to China's strong talent pool and industrial ecosystem as major advantages. Many American companies operating in China regard local talent as one of their greatest strengths, he said, adding that closer cooperation in innovation and industrial ecosystems would benefit the broader global economy.

Ambassador Craig Allen, former President of U.S.-China Business Council stressed on the Summit that "trade is not a zero sum game", whereas "innovation is the most positive sum game in the world."

"Over the last 10 years, global companies have integrated very deeply into China's supply chains, which offer scale, reliability, infrastructure, and cost competitiveness. China's industrial capabilities, especially in green technology, are providing important benefits for the globe," he said.

He highlighted the significant complementarities between Chinese and American companies, noting China's advantages in manufacturing ecosystems, engineering talent, infrastructure and speed of commercialization. Cooperation between the two sides in a stable and predictable business environment, he said, would generate stronger creativity and higher productivity for both countries.

"Chinese companies have developed strong global competitiveness not only in manufacturing, but also in cutting-edge sectors such as batteries, artificial intelligence, robotics, digital platforms, advanced engineering and electric vehicles. Multinational corporations increasingly view China not only as a manufacturing base, but also as a major center for innovation and research and development," he said, expressing confidence that a more innovative and consumption-driven Chinese economy would further integrate China with the global economy by creating new markets and strengthening global business ties.
